At our centre, we offer the most modern techniques, such as Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT) or Volumetric Modulated Arc Therapy (VMAT), which is a technique that consists of irradiating tumours in a very precise way, allowing protection of healthy organs and thus avoid treatment´s toxicity. In addition, our technology allows us to perform shorter treatments. This is what we call hypofractionation, that is, increasing the dose in each session maintaining good tolerance to treatment, and at the same time improving the quality of life of our patients, making sessions more compatible with their daily routine…
Likewise, in a pioneering way in our country, we have implemented Surface Guided Radiation Therapy or SGRT, in which, using the image registration of their body surface, the patient is positioned without the need of being touched or tattooed, and it also allows breathing control to reduce radiation doses to healthy tissues due to breathing movement.
Another novel technique at our centre is Radiosurgery (SRS) for brain metastases and Stereotactic Body Radiation Therapy (SBRT) for extracranial metastases. These techniques consist of administering high doses per fraction in a precise way, achieving an ‘ablative’ effect comparable to surgery. They are especially indicated for oligometastatic patients, that is, patients with few metastases (from 1 to 5), having scientifically demonstrated the increase in survival in these cases.
Lastly, our patients can benefit from a magnetic resonance planning system, allowing us to better define the areas to be irradiated, compared to the usual process performed by CT. We are also pioneer in the use of this system in Spain, which is indicated in tumours located in the central nervous system and pelvis.
